SkinPen is the first FDA-cleared microneedling device in the world, clinically proven to safely and effectively fight the appearance of neck wrinkles and facial acne scars. With as few as three non-invasive and affordable treatments spaced 30 days apart, you can improve your appearance for six months after your last treatment – and step out with confidence.
SkinPen creates hundreds to thousands of “micro” skin punctures per second to stimulate the skin’s natural wound healing process – inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling – to prompt tissue remodeling without causing scar tissue formation. Most patients can return to normal activities within 24 hours.
It's very safe, too! SkinPen’s patented – and single-use – sterile needle cartridge is built with safety in mind. SkinPen is also surrounded by a custom-designed BioSheath that acts as a barrier to prevent cross contamination between procedures. That’s part of the reason SkinPen s the world’s first FDA-cleared microneedling device.
SkinPen’s microneedles penetrate the skin’s surface, triggering a natural immune response to disinfect, remove debris, increase blood flow, and activate the creation of new tissue.
The micro-channels or tiny holes created by SkinPen are rebuilt with new granulation cells that include collagen proteins. Additionally, a new network of blood vessels develops.
New dermal tissues form, rich in collagen and elastin proteins. These proteins improve skin quality, visibly reducing facial acne scars and neck wrinkles, leaving skin more smooth, radiant, and younger-looking.
This is an optional upgrade to our standard microneedling service. A vampire facial is a process where we draw a small amount of your blood, spin it in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich-plasma from the red blood cells, and use this "liquid gold" on your face during the microneedling process. In short, a vampire facial uses your own cells to help promote new tissue growth and healthy skin.
Yes, the results typically are better. It adds $300 to your service and takes an additional 25 minutes. If you have the time and money, this upgrade is definitely worth it!
Please reach us at service@goatathleticspa.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Our team is made up of medical professionals and estheticians. Depending on the service you are receiving, a member of our team with the proper licensing, training, and certifications, will attend to you. The SkinPen treatments are administered by both estheticians and nurses.
If you have skin discolorations, wrinkles, or dull skin, microneedling can improve your skin tone and texture by spurring collagen and elastin production. Fine lines can be improved and pigmentation issues lessened with a series of microneedling treatments.
SkinPen should NOT be used on patients who have active skin cancer in the treatment area(s); open wounds, sores, or irritated skin in the treatment area(s); an allergy to stainless steel or anesthetics; a hemorrhagic (bleeding) disorder or hemostatic (bleeding) dysfunction; are pregnant or nursing; or are currently taking drugs with the ingredient isotretinoin (such as Accutane). Talk to your doctor to see if this treatment is right for you.
Our typical service is for the face, down to the chin. You can upgrade to include the neck, which is our most common service. You can also add other areas of the body, such as your décolleté or places where you have scars. A common example is around the stomach where many people have stretch marks or scars from a C-section or tummy tuck. Microneedling can be helpful with repairing and restoring stretch marks and scars! Surcharges apply for each area, billed out as either "large" or "small" areas. Please speak with a staff member for more information.
Avoid any skin care product that contains harsh chemicals meant to exfoliate. Avoid anything that's scented, and don't use glycolic acid or alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs). Retinol and vitamin C serum should be avoided for at least the first 48 hours after microneedling.
Arrive to your appointment well-hydrated, with a completely clean face, free of make-up and lotion.
Like all cosmetic procedures, microneedling carries some risks. The most common side effect is minor skin irritation immediately following the procedure. You may also see redness for a few days, including minor peeling similar to after a sunburn.
Call your doctor if you notice more severe side effects, such as: bleeding, bruising or infection.
Microneedling isn’t as invasive as plastic surgery, and the recovery time is minimal. Most people require very little downtime if any at all. You may notice skin irritation and redness within the first few days. This is a natural response to the small “injuries” made by the needles in your skin.
You can go back to work or school after the procedure if you’re comfortable. It’s best to let your skin heal before applying makeup. However, once the appropriate time has passed, camouflaging makeup can help disguise the redness as it dissipates over 3-4 days.
Your skin will also be more sensitive to the sun, so be sure to apply sunscreen. Still, it’s recommended that you wait one week before exposing your skin to sunlight and harsh chemicals.
After microneedling, your skin works fairly quickly to rejuvenate new tissue. In theory, you should see results within a couple of weeks.
To maintain the results of your treatment, you’ll need multiple sessions and perhaps other complementing treatments. We recommend a series of 3 sessions, spaced 4 weeks apart.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s clearance covers not only the SkinPen device but the entire protocol. That includes the Skinfuse® Lift HG hydrogel used to protect against abrasion and friction during the treatment, as well as the custom-designed BioSheath to prevent cross contamination.
Unfortunately, no. Microneedling treatments and vampire facials are proven to be highly effective. However, like all medical procedures, results vary by patient and the results cannot be guaranteed.
